Some people refer to their pets as their fur babies, and to an extent, that is true. A dog or a cat becomes a large part of your lifestyle, so much so that in many ways, owning a pet is like having a child. Pet ownership involves a lot of the same responsibilities that parenthood does, which is why the decision to add a pet to your life should not be taken lightly.
Your schedule will likely change when you first add a pet to your family. For example, your new puppy will need to be taken out and fed before you go to work. You will also need to go home after work to let your pup outside to use the bathroom. Time will need to be allotted into your schedule to play with your dog. And lastly, your dog will need to be fed and taken out in the evening. It may seem like a large request, but sleeping in will now be a luxury – not that dissimilar from the first months of having a newborn in the family, as a recent article published by the American Council on Science and Health notes.
With a new four-legged family member, you will also need to do your homework and determine who would be the best veterinarian for your dog. A veterinarian experienced in brachycephalic breeds (short-faced breeds, like French and English bulldogs) would be advantageous. After all, each dog breed requires different needs, and doesn’t it make sense to go to a specialist if you can? Building a relationship with your veterinarian is also the perfect way to determine whether or not your pet has something serious later on. Your pet will have tell-tale signs that can cue you in to pain or problems. For example, if your pet is normally super snuggly or energetic but suddenly becomes withdrawn or lethargic, that could be a sign that they are in pain, and your vet can take a closer look and make a diagnosis of any issue.
Last, you will form a bond with your dog like any parent would with their child. They will become an important part of your life and become irreplaceable. They will make you laugh and feel better when you are sad. French and English bulldogs are known for forming intense bonds with their owners. They are extremely protective and loving creatures, plus their wrinkles make them such characters!
Unlike a child, however, you will receive training tips and tricks for how to integrate a new puppy into your family. With more than 30 years of breeding experience, our dogs are great snuggle buddies and watch dogs.
